o   Superheroes use the illustrations make a movie in their mind
o   Superheroes point underneath each word only once, even if the word has more than one syllable
o   Superheroes make sure that we point to each word on the page and that the number of words we say matches the number of words we see (point to)
o   Superheroes read sight words in a snap!
o   Superheroes get our lips ready to say the first sound in a tricky word.  We then check the pictures to see if there is a picture that starts with the same sound.  We then read through the word.
o   Superheroes think, “What word matches the picture?”
o   Superheroes reread when they are stuck to make meaning.
o   Superheroes look for patterns to read more smoothly.
o   Superheroes notice when the pattern changes
o   Superheroes re-read books again and again to make it sound smoother each time
